About Dar Nejma
Close to the palm grove, in the heart of the medina, Dar Nejma, “The house of stars” hides behind its high blond brick walls. The large door opens onto the skifa, a double vestibule which protects the guest from outside eyes before really entering the riad. A first glance captures the ballet of light and shadow that plays on the ochre walls and filtered by the luxuriant vegetation. We are in the inner courtyard, around which the shared spaces are organised: large lounge,
music room, small Arab lounge, dining room and kitchen. The swimming pool, despite its size, is discreet. The date palm, one of the largest in the medina, dominates the riad from its full height.
The second courtyard is more mineral. Flats facades are reflected in the water of the basin. The windows are decorated with wrought iron scrolls or moucharabiehs, to see while protecting privacy.
Each flat, composed of a small living room, a bedroom and a bathroom, testifies to an architectural and decorative approach reconciling traditional arrangements and materials as well as the warm colours of
sub-Saharan Africa or Berber craftsmanship.
