About Dar Nejma

Close to the palm grove, in the heart of the medina, Dar Nejma, “The house of stars” hides behind its high blond brick walls.

The large door opens onto the skifa, a double vestibule which protects the guest from outside eyes before entering the Dar. A first glance captures the ballet of light and shadow that plays on the ochre walls and filtered by the luxuriant vegetation. We are in the inner courtyard, around which the shared spaces are organised: breakfast room, Arab lounge and small music area. Despite its size, the swimming pool blends discreetly into the background. The date palm dominates the Dar from its full height.

The second courtyard is more mineral. The façades of the suites are reflected in the water of the pool. The windows are decorated with wrought iron scrolls or moucharabiehs, to see while protecting privacy.

Each suite, composed of a small living room, a bedroom and a bathroom, testifies to an architectural and decorative approach reconciling materials with warm colours of sub-Saharan Africa and Berber craftsmanship.

The city of Tozeur

Tozeur is a city on the edge of the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara. It was an important stopover city and haven of peace for caravanners until the 19th century, thanks to its palm grove, the largest in Tunisia, with over 400,000 date palms.

The exceptional natural setting that surrounds Tozeur, with its oases, breathtaking scenery and enchanting atmosphere, completes its richness and appeal, earning it the appellation of “pearl of the desert”.
